A delegation of seven experts from the Polytechnic University of Milan visited Azerbaijan from 19 to 22 June. The purpose of the visit was to carry out a preliminary study for the construction of the School of Architecture and Design of the Italy-Azerbaijan University, which will be based at the ADA University.
In addition to discussions with Rector Hafiz Pashayev, the delegation maintained close consultations with relevant government organizations to align university curricula with strategic development goals in architecture and urban planning.
The delegation met with Anar Guliyev, Chairman of the State Committee of Urbanism and Architecture of Azerbaijan, Rufat Mahmud, Head of General Directorate of Architecture and Urbanism of Baku, and Emin Huseynov , special representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Karabakh. Region.
Due to the strategic importance of the initiative for both countries, the delegation also met with the Italian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Claudio Taffuri, to discuss the framework and future perspectives of the collaboration.
Furthermore, the delegation had an exchange of views with Elbay Gasimzade, the President of the Union of Architects of Azerbaijan, and a group of young architects to adapt university curricula to meet the challenges of existing local expertise. In addition, the delegation visited local brands specializing in traditional arts and crafts, such as carpet making, etc. for design programs. An extensive architectural tour of the city of Baku and the ADA campus was an integral part of the preliminary study program.
According to Galib Mammad, head of the Italy-Azerbaijan University working group, the academic programs will cover areas of strategic importance such as architecture, urban planning, landscaping as well as interior, communication and product design. These programs will be taught in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Milan.
The delegation from the Polytechnic University of Milan underlined that while the university programs will focus on innovation, they will be based on the cultural identity and authentic traditions of the country.
The inauguration ceremony of the Italy-Azerbaijan University took place on April 2, 2022, with the participation of Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Luigi di Maio, Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov, Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov and Minister of Education.
